Twitter

I think that Twitter is ok for use in a library. It help give fast information but not in detail. Great for quick reminders about events but not the whole information on the event.

It was very easy to find people to follow. I use mine mostly for music and library things but I found some of my friends as well.

I started following Library Journal, Library of Congress, and Indiana State Library. Their posts have helped me gain incite on what is going on in the library world which is easy to forget to do when you work in such a small library.

I have found Twitter is great for reminders of events going on or a quick thank you.

Facebook Web 2.0

I chose Facebook because this is what my library uses in the social networking sites. I am actually a manager over the libraries Facebook page and I LOVE IT!!!

What I like about Facebook is that everyone is on it and when they like the page our events pop up on their news feed so they see what is going on at the library without much effort.

I always see myself using Facebook and I see the library continue to use it as well. Our library does have a Facebook page and we use it to answer questions a patron might have and we use it to post events that are happening at our library and to thank sponsors that have donated to the library for our summer reading program.

The end

This semester has been very rough on me. This was the first year I have taken online classes and I took four. I should not have taken that many my first go around. I also have learned that I need to tell my boss that I don't want the extra hours if it is going to interfere with school which it has this semester.
With that, the most important things that I learned in LIB 105 was the importance in the ability to adapt to changes in technology. No one gains from a librarian that can not change with the times. We are the best place to go to for free for help with the ever changing world. I do not know how many times while I have been working at a library that I have helped a patron with the computers or a device that they have brought in. It is very important that we are here for the people that have fallen a little behind on technology. Think of how many technology things have changed in the past 10 years or even the past 5 years... There have been a lot of changes and it is easy to not adapt and learn new things if you are not careful. That is where the library comes into play. We have to be able to adapt to technology so that we can help others that have not been able to keep up with the changes in it.
My library is very small we only have 5 people on staff that includes the cleaning person that does not work the desk. So I am against 24/7 access at MY library right now because I would be the person that the questions would be asked to all the time. In large libraries it is a wonderful thing because people that put off doing something till the last minute might need help late at night and this is a perfect opportunity to be there for them.

I loved this class and wish that all of my classes were this seamlessly worked into the workplace.

Virtual Reference

Do any library's in your home area use virtual reference services to reach patrons? If so, what do they use (IM, text, email, social media, etc.)? The Library that I currently work at we use e-mail and Facebook.
Do you think virtual reference is an effective use of staff time in a library? Why or why not? With what we use yes it can be but then again sometimes it does not get to the patron as fast as when the patron is right in front of us.
What were your likes and dislikes about using Skype for this assignment? Would you use a different piece of software for this type of activity in the future? Well this was my first time ever using Skype and I had a good experience. I had to work out a few kinks with what I knew how to do and what I didn't. Luckily I had a very good partner Sara Cutright. No I think that this is the best software for this other than using Facebook.

I had a hard time finding how to download all of this but I finally figured it out and I was so excited. It was easy to find just not easy to put into a blog until I figured out how to. I put this picture with this music because the picture reminds me of the 60's and I looked for music to fit that and I found this!
